Amanda has always loved hairstylists. Ever since she accompanied her mother to the salon at 4 years old, watching Margaret perm her mother’s hair, she loved everything about the salon. As the years passed, she would bring her ideas to her hairstylists and collaborate on her cuts and colors. More than one would say, “You should go to beauty school!” But it didn’t register until Amanda was 30 years old and at a crossroads. After working in child care, social services, and information technology, Amanda wondered, “Should I go for it?” At 31 years old, Amanda enrolled in beauty school at night. For two years, she worked a full time job and went to class 4 nights a week. She graduated and got her license in 2015. She would work all day and cut, color, and style hair in the evenings and on the weekends. She built a small but loyal clientele. After about 10 months, she quit her day job and was a full time hairstylist.
Amanda always puts 100% of herself into her passions, and hairstyling was no different. It was Amanda’s dream to be an international educator with a manufacturer, traveling the world and teaching on stage. She had started on that path, and unexpectedly, her plans were derailed - causing her to reevaluate completely. Amanda’s focus became the clients in her chair, the ones that allowed her to do this in the first place. The ones that truly believed in her. That’s when she became the hairstylist she was meant to be. Amanda discovered how much she loved to do hairstyling for weddings and special occasions. She also did hairstyling and wig styling for theatre, tv, film, and commercials. Her expertise was expanding and she was feeling like anything was possible.
When COVID happened in 2020, Amanda and most hairstylists in California were faced with an impossible situation - being shut down three times with no safety net or real support from the industry. Her clients were amazing during this time, buying at home kits and hair care products. This was another turning point for Amanda. The realization that hairstylists are essentially on their own even within the hair industry, Amanda was determined to make changes to her business in order to be more self sufficient. Then, in April 2021, Amanda and her husband got the news - Baby Vivian was on her way! Amanda worked at the salon until November 2021. Vivian arrived in December 2021 and Amanda became a stay at home mom. As Vivian grew, Amanda rebranded to only cater to weddings and special occasions. The clients that Amanda gets the opportunity to work with are always the most awesome, joyful, and collaborative people! They make this chapter of Amanda’s career so amazing, and Amanda is so grateful for each and every one of them.
